« Reinventing the codes of the Parisian apartment in the heart of the Mediterranean, this is what the Sofitel Barcelona Skipper offers. Right in the heart of the emblematic Vila Olímpica district, looking out to sea, this beautiful hotel represents the anchor point between Catalan tradition and the more recent history of the city of Barcelona.» confirms Matthias Bernard.

Along the urban beach of Barceloneta, the Sofitel Barcelona Skipper pays tribute to the rich diversity of the neighborhoods that surround it, an undeniable signature of the cosmopolitan spirit of Barcelona.

Flagship of the Sofitel brand in Southern Europe, The Barcelona Skipper enriches the tourist offer of the Vila Olimpica. With the sea as a backdrop, the hotel offers 225 luxurious rooms including 24 suites and a presidential suite. The decoration of the Sofitel Barcelona Skipper, designed by the architecture studio Factoria Uda, brought together: sophistication, refinement of the French Art de Vivre, modernity, hedonism and local know-how.

Influenced by the Mediterranean blue of Barcelona and the white of Parisian buildings, the decoration combines natural materials such as oak wood, topstitching on the floors in the purest Parisian style in the more classic bathroom with black and white tiles. The typical elements of Paris dance with those of the city, as with the “Panots”, the hexagons created by Antonio Gaudí for the floor of the famous Paseo de Gracia and which are present in the decoration of the beds of the 225 rooms. Among other works of art visible in the hotel, the Catalan artists Ya ya Tur and Mario Ruiz were commissioned to transform the rooms and hallways into art galleries.

“We are happy to be open to new perspectives and new talents. With the Sofitel Barcelona Skipper, we have created a space of natural elegance, with a touch of rebellious attitude. The hotel captures both the essence of Barcelona and that of France. The two destinations share this desire to take risks, to transform and to reinvent the classic, as many reflections as the customers leisure and business can see in the hotel”, said Matthias Bernard, general manager of Sofitel Barcelona Skipper.

In the rooms, Mario Ruiz used recycled automobile elements to create sculptures and Ya Ya Tur placed works painted exclusively for the hotel on the hallway walls, framed by white lacquered wood moldings. The light of the Mediterranean enters through the large bay windows, offering a spectacle of the urban landscapes, the swimming pool and, in the distance, the beach and the sea, a sparkling decor dotted with touches of blue which are reflected in the entire decoration of the hotel. Elements such as the large bevelled mirrors or the tiling in the bathroom, give the decoration a delightfully retro touch, combining French refinement with the spirit of a playful Barcelona, plunging guests into a glamorous era where traveling was the ultimate luxury.

Each room, from decor to fragrance atmosphere, with luxurious decoration, elegant furniture and exquisite finishes, giving way to the magic of details and displaying a certain omnipresent joie de vivre.

Local cuisine and French way of life

The culinary signature of the hotel is provided by the famous Catalan chef David Andrés, Michelin starred. Thus, the menus of the hotel’s main restaurant, Le Tendiez, and the bar-restaurant on the roof, El Cielo, bear his gourmet and talented imprint. With experience as a chef in major restaurants in Spain such as aBaC, he designed a high-end Mediterranean tapas menu for Sofitel. Among the dishes, you can find 100% local products such as Escalivada with candied tomatoes and smoked sardines with escarole salad, Rice from the Ebro delta with carbonara with fake fried egg or even Fricarando of bluefin tuna parpatana and small grilled lettuce with almond and romesco sauce. A gastronomic offer based on the flavors of the city of Barcelona and the spirit of sharing tapas. The hotel’s gastronomy offer is completed by a second restaurant, the Syrah, which offers a wide variety of local products every day, such as fish from the Boquería Market, Catalan cheeses from Puigcerdá or Catalan charcuterie from Castelltergol. Finally, the heights of the hotel house a third space dedicated to gastronomy with El Cielo, to enjoy the hotel terrace.
