BOARD’S CHOICE 2026 — A landmark Berlin address redefined for a new chapter
The European Hotel Awards have named Radisson Collection Hotel, Berlin Iconic City Hotel of the Year 2026. The distinction recognises a major urban property whose 2025 reopening transformed a familiar address in Berlin-Mitte into a renewed metropolitan hotel with a strong architectural and social identity.
Led by General Manager Marco Eichhorn, the hotel combines an exceptional position opposite Berlin Cathedral with the scale required of an international city property. For the Board, the significance of the project lies in the coherence between location, reinvention, accommodation, meetings, food and beverage and the new identity of the central atrium.

Why the European Hotel Awards selected Radisson Collection Hotel, Berlin
The Board considered the reopening on 12 February 2025 as more than a refurbishment. The property returned with 427 rooms and suites, 15 meeting and event spaces representing around 2,750 square metres, and a renewed hospitality offer capable of serving leisure travellers, business guests, events and the local city audience.
Its location in Mitte was also fundamental to the decision. Berlin Cathedral, Museum Island, the Humboldt Forum and Alexanderplatz place the hotel inside one of the capital’s most recognisable cultural environments. The Award acknowledges the ability of a large hotel to use that position as part of the guest experience rather than simply as an address.

The Living Tree as the architectural symbol of the transformation
The hotel’s most visible new signature is the Living Tree, rising through the central atrium. Approximately 24 metres high, reaching up to around 20 metres wide and composed of nearly 2,000 plants, the installation gives a vast interior space an organic point of orientation and encounter.
The European Hotel Awards did not select the property because of one spectacular feature alone. The Living Tree was considered meaningful because it participates in a wider transformation: architecture, circulation, atmosphere and social life have been reorganised so that the atrium functions as the heart of the hotel rather than as a purely monumental volume.

A city hotel designed to participate in Berlin life
San Éna and the Atrium Bar extend the property beyond accommodation, creating spaces where residents, local guests, conference delegates and visitors can share the same hotel environment. This social dimension is particularly important for a central-city property of this scale.
Under Marco Eichhorn, the relaunch has restored the visibility of a well-known Berlin hotel while giving it a contemporary reason to be recognised again. The Board saw this capacity for reinvention — without losing the strength of the address — as central to the meaning of an iconic city hotel.
